At the heart of Laikipia County, Kenya, a quiet revolution is taking shape — one that bridges the old and the new, the pastoral and the commercial, the traditional and the technological.
This is Booran Kaúu — a climate-smart livestock enterprise built on the belief that sustainability and profitability can, and must, coexist.
The Vision: From Pastoralism to Climate-Smart Agribusiness
For decades, pastoral communities across Northern Kenya have relied on livestock not only as an economic asset but as a cultural identity. Yet, climate variability, shrinking grazing lands, and market inefficiencies have placed immense pressure on these systems.
Booran Kaúu was born out of this challenge — and opportunity. Founded by Liban Roba, a livestock trader and agribusiness leader with deep roots in the pastoral economy, Booran Kaúu aims to transform the livestock value chain by combining indigenous knowledge with modern agronomic and technological solutions.
The Model: Integrating Land, Water, and Livestock
At its core, Booran Kaúu is a climate-resilient beef production model that uses an integrated system approach. The farm spans 65 acres, with 25 acres under irrigation and 40 acres under rain-fed fodder. Two dams and 19 elevated tanks provide water security, while modern feedlot infrastructure supports high-efficiency fattening operations.
Our operations hinge on three pillars:
Irrigated Fodder Production – Ensuring consistent year-round feed availability, even during dry seasons.
Modern Feedlot Systems – Streamlining fattening cycles for premium-grade carcass yield and predictable supply.
Sustainable Resource Management – Implementing water harvesting, soil conservation, and afforestation practices to enhance ecosystem balance.
This approach not only stabilizes production but also restores degraded landscapes and improves climate resilience across the rangelands.
Community-Driven, Market-Linked
Booran Kaúu is not an isolated commercial enterprise — it’s a community-centered ecosystem.
We collaborate closely with pastoral producers from Northern Kenya, providing offtake opportunities, training, and fair market access. By doing so, we create a loop of shared value: farmers gain stable income, the environment heals, and the beef market becomes more efficient and traceable.
We believe that every animal, every acre, and every drop of water must serve a dual purpose — to create value and to preserve the land for generations to come.
Climate Resilience in Action
~At Booran Kaúu, we don’t just talk about climate adaptation; we live it.~
Our entire production model is designed to thrive under variable weather conditions — with irrigation-fed fodder systems, drought-tolerant grasses, and precision water management ensuring that production remains steady even when rainfall fails.
This is how we build resilience — one farm, one herd, one community at a time
Innovation, Learning, and Growth
Beyond livestock, Booran Kaúu is positioning itself as a knowledge and innovation hub. We integrate remote sensing, digital farm management tools, and data-driven feeding systems to optimize operations. Our long-term goal is to become a center of excellence in climate-smart beef production — providing research, training, and partnership opportunities for both public and private institutions.
Sustainability with a Commercial Edge ~Sustainability without scalability is charity~
At Booran Kaúu, our focus is on commercial sustainability — building a profitable, replicable model that others across Africa can adapt.
We pursue partnerships in climate finance, renewable energy, and agritech innovation to ensure that the livestock sector contributes meaningfully to Kenya’s green economy.
What Makes Booran Kaúu Different?
We are bridging traditional pastoralism with modern agribusiness.
We apply science, technology, and local knowledge to drive production.
We focus on shared prosperity, ensuring that communities grow alongside the business.
We design for climate resilience, not just short-term yield.
We treat land, water, and livestock as one interconnected system.
